Math 1060, Trigonometry, 2 credits. Trigonometric functions, equations, identities, and applications. A graphing calculator required. Prerequisite: C- or better in Math 1010 (or Math 1050), or Math ACT score of at least 23 (Math SAT score of at least 540), or AP calculus score of at least 3 on the AB exam within the Math prerequisite acceptability time limit, or satisfactory score on Math Placement Test. May be taken concurrently with Math 1050.
Online Course Fee: $15 per credit course fee is applied to all online courses to sustain current digital technologies and support services required for engaging and effective online learning.

If you logon to the course via Canvas, you will be directed to the Online 1050 homepage which is is http://www.math.usu.edu/rheal/math 1060.
Of course you must have a computer with an internet connection. A graphing calculator is also required. If you already own a graphing calculator then use that one. The Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus model is recommended. Here is a TI-83 Plus Guidebook. When you are on-line, except for tests, you may choose to use the online graphing tool.

The text is Precalculus, Third Edition by Paul Sisson and is published by Hawkes Learning. The text material is integrated with the online software. You will purchase an access code an then create an account.
1. Go to Hawkes Learning.
2. Purchase an Access Code. You will enter Utah State University, click on Continue. The product you must select is Precalculus.
3. Click on View Cart and complete the purchase.
4. Go Hawkes Learning and select Create an Account. You will enter your Access Code and then create a password.
5. Enroll in the course: Robert Heal, Online Math 1060 Spring 2021.
6. If you need help, here is a Hawkes link with a phone number at the bottom right of the page.
Once you work through the first few lessons, you will become very comfortable with the instructional software.

Schedule for Lessons and Tests:
There are a total of 15 lessons in the Hawkes Learning System that you are required to complete. Each lesson is worth 10 points upon certification, so there are 150 possible lesson points. Your total will be converted to percentage points and so the lessons count a possible 100 points toward your course-grade total. The courseware for each lesson consists of three modes:
The required lessons for Online Math 1060 are indicated in the table below. Do only these assigned lessons; it is best if you certify on those lessons covered by an exam before you take the exam; all lessons must be completed by April 27, 2021. You can work at your own pace but there are deadlines for the exams.

The exam due dates are given in the table above. You are allowed 90 minutes for each midterm and 2 hours for the final. For each midterm and final test you get four attemps with the best score counted. Test results are automatically recorded in the Hawkes Gradebook, results and feedback are immediately available. After you have completed an examination, Dr. Heal will review your exam and give you additional points for partial credit and trivial formatting errors when it is appropriate. You don’t need to contact me, just check your Hawkes Gradebook for the revised score a few days after it is submitted.

All exams will be taken while being monitored by Proctorio, an online monitoring service which uses advanced machine learning and facial detection technology. Your tests are accessed via Canvas, under the Quizzes tab. On the Canvas homepage is a link to information about Proctorio and its requirements (Google browser, camera, microphone). Scratch paper, a graphing calculator, and a single 5x8 card (both sides) for notes and formulas are allowed. The calculator can only be used for arithmetic computations and graphs, NOT for computer algebra or solutions. Some of the more sophisticated and expensive calculators will do an impressive amount of computer math. We want our students to have a fundamental understanding of the concepts and not just be able to push buttons. The test software will keep track of the time. Note that Canvas is just used to access Proctorio without requiring additional cost; scores in Canvas mean nothing, your actual scores are in your Hawkes gradebook.

Grading Policy:
Your grade will be determined by the total of all your scores on the three midterms, the lessons (% score), and the final test. There are 600 points possible. Grades will be assigned according to the following table:

IDEA Objectives:

Students are required to complete all courses for which they are registered by the end of the semester.
