MATH 1050 Tests

Your tests will be completed using WebTest, a state-of-the-art, online testing system that creates unique tests, and homework assignments for each student. The tests are randomly generated using a variety of problem types and parameters. They are based on the same problem types that are used to build your homework assignments. Practice exams are also available.

There are three midterms (90 minutes), each worth 100 points and a final test (2 hours) that is comprehensive and worth 200 points.

The exams are not open-book; however, you may use your graphing calculator and a single 3 x 5 index card for formulas and definitions. The recommended exam due dates are given in the table above; as with any math class, it is imperative that you do not fall behind in the schedule. There is no penalty for taking tests beyond the recommended due date but all exams must be completed by the last day of test week. Test results are automatically recorded in the Gradebook; results and feedback are immediately available.

All tests are proctored and scheduled through USU Regional Campuses & Distance Education. You request a test by using the online request form. If you have difficulty with the online form, contact the Independent Study Office at 435-797-2137 (800-233-2137). If you live in Utah, it is likely that you will be able to take the exam at the nearest USU regional campus. Check this map for the one nearest you.

Students who do not live in Cache Valley and are unable to come to a USU Regional campus or extension office will have to schedule an approved proctor for the exam. You must contact Dr. Robert Heal at least one week prior to the scheduled exam date. This will allow Dr. Heal to contact the proctor and relay specific instructions. Of course you must have access to the Hawkes Learning Systems software so you will have to bring your laptop, with the software installed, to the exam. Here is a partial list of acceptable proctors:

college testing personnel
superintendent
principal
county agent
military education director
librarian

When you ready to take an exam, you just login to the Hawkes Learning System with your own laptop and choose WebTest; your proctor will have to enter a password. The on-line exam will provide a countdown of the time remaining so the proctor will not have to keep track of time. When you have completed the exam, your proctor will again be required to enter their login name and password so that the exam can be graded and posted to the Gradebook. If you take an exam using a USU computer then you must have your unique access code for the Hawkes Learning System.
