Welcome to the Stat 2000 Webpage. This page contains news and
additional information regarding this class that becomes
available during the semester.
It is updated whenever
new dates, times, or other information become available.
This course closely follows the electronic textbook ``CyberStats'',
accessible at
http://www.cyberk.com
as described
in the syllabus.
And here are the news:
- 1) Stat 2000 Curriculum Fall 2001.
(8/17/2001)
- 2) Statistics is fun! If you don't think so, better check this
Web site first:
http://www.ilstu.edu/~gcramsey/Gallery.html
(8/17/2001)
- 3) Homework 1 (due 9/10/2001).
(8/31/2001)
- 4) Homework 2 (due 9/17/2001).
(9/9/2001)
- 5) I checked with the CyberStats designers why some of you have
been sent back to the login page when you tried to submit the homework
assignments. This is a security feature that kicks in after 15 minutes
without having accessed another page within CyberStats. Here are
some workarounds suggested from CyberStats.
They may not work on all computers or with all different Web browsers
so please make sure what is working for you. Also, it might be
advisable to make a printout of the page (or keep an electronic
copy) before you click on submit
(when I see that you started an answer but some part of your answer
is invisible, I will still award full points for such a printed
version of your answers).
(9/10/2001)
- 6) Due to the technical problems with CyberStats this week,
I will award everyone with the full 19 points for the CyberStats
exercise from Homework Assignment 1. You do not need to resubmit
or redo any of the CyberStats exercises. Of course, you still need
to e-mail or turn in your answer to question 1 (why Stat 2000?)
before 11:59pm tonight.
(9/10/2001)
- 7) Homework 3 (due 9/24/2001).
(9/16/2001)
- 8) Homework 4 (due 10/1/2001 - but recommended
before Friday as a preparation for Quiz 1).
(9/24/2001)
- 9) Homework 5 (due 10/10/2001).
(10/2/2001)
- 10) Please note that we will be in Animal Science 315
this Friday 10/5/2001. We will be back in our
regular classroom next Monday.
(10/3/2001)
- 11) You can download a free trial copy of the
screen capture software SnagIt from
http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp.
I am using it frequently on my laptop.
(10/3/2001)
- 12) As seen in class, WebStat 2.0 (which is similar to
DataTools in CyberStats) works prefectly. You can access it via
http://www.stat.sc.edu/webstat/.
The data we used in class today is accessible at
http://www.math.usu.edu/~symanzik/teaching/2001_stat2000_2/victories.dat.
(10/3/2001)
- 13) Homework 6 (due 10/15/2001).
(10/9/2001)
- 14) Homework 7 (due 10/22/2001).
(10/15/2001)
- 15) Homework 8 (due 10/29/2001).
(10/22/2001)
- 16) Homework 9 (due 11/5/2001 - but recommended
before Friday as a preparation for Quiz 2).
(10/29/2001)
- 17) I will be in my office for additional office hours
on Tuesday 10/30/2001 from 5pm to 6pm in case you
cannot attend the in-class review on Wednesday 10/31/2001.
And don't forget Quiz 2
this Friday, 11/2/2001,
from 10:30am to 11:20am in our regular classroom.
(10/29/2001)
- 18) Homework 10 (due 11/13/2001).
(11/6/2001)
- 19) Homework 11 (due 11/20/2001).
(11/13/2001)
- 20) Homework 12 (due 11/29/2001).
(11/20/2001)
- 21) Homework 13 (due 12/6/2001).
(11/30/2001)
- 22) The Final
will take place on
Monday, 12/10/2001,
from 9:30am to 11:20am in our regular classroom.
You should bring your calculator and all the material
related to this class, e.g., printouts from CyberStats, lecture notes,
additional handouts, homeworks and solutions.
As before, you are allowed to access CyberStats (in the case
that it is accessible).
The final will be comprehensive. You should expect that about
1/2 of the final will cover recent material that was not part of any
of the previous 2 quizzes and about 1/2 of the final will cover material
discussed up to Quiz 2. Note that we discussed a lot of material that
is not included in CyberStats.
(11/30/2001)
- 23) In addition to the interactive Normal tables within CyberStats,
there exist other interactive Normal tables, often also
called Z tables, on the Web, e.g.,
http://davidmlane.com/hyperstat/z_table.html.
(11/30/2001)
- 24) Here is the
Final from the last Stat 2000
course I taught at Utah State University in the Spring of 2000.
That course was different from our course since it was
based on a regular textbook and not on CyberStats.
There are several topics that show up in the Final we did
not discuss. Otherwise, we discussed additional topics that
were not discussed then. Obviously, there is also a certain
overlap between that course and our course. Actually, you may
have already seen some of these questions directly or in a modified
form this semester. So, take this final as a general guideline
on the format but don't panic if something looks totally
unfamiliar to you.
(12/5/2001)
- 25) Study Guide.
(12/6/2001)
- 26) Grades have been entered into the university system.
Please check your final grades there. It was a pleasure to teach
this class with you. Thanks, Jürgen.
