Welcome to DataImage!

"If you had java enabled, you could try out DataImage 1.0 right now!"

A data image is a way to look at moderately high-dimensional data sets for structure across many variables. It was developed by Mike Minnotte and Webster West , and owes a lot to the color histogram ideas of Ed Wegman .

This java implementation allows the user to generate a data image using his or her own data, or using one of the sample data sets we provide. Many of the classes involved in this implementation come out of Webster's WebStat package, a java applet for many standard statistical analyses on the web. Check it out!

For more information on the data image, see "The Data Image: A Tool for Exploring High Dimensional Data."

If you have any questions or comments on DataImage 1.0, please email minnotte@math.usu.edu or west@stat.sc.edu.

We also have S-plus functions for calculating and plotting data images. This requires downloading the code and sourcing it into S-plus, but it will allow you to save and print the resulting data images.
