The mission of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at USU is to increase fundamental knowledge in mathematics and statistics; explore the frontiers of the mathematical sciences with other disciplines; to train new generations of mathematically literate and quantitatively skilled graduates; to provide intellectual leadership in mathematics and statistics that is of direct benefit to the state of Utah and its citizens; and to earn national and international respect for the quality of its scholarship and educational programs.

Math Refresher Course Helps USU Students

Students who completed the Math 0920 Math Skills Review just prior to Fall Semester 2007 saved $32,250 in fees. The Math Advising Office tracked 58 students who with math placement results before and after the students attended math review workshops covering math content from Math 0900, Math 1010, Math 1050, Math 1060, as well as Math 1100, Math 1210, and Math 1220. In just 20 hours of reviewing math skills learned in prerequisite courses, 58 students saved as much as two full semesters in mathematics courses. A summary of the savings is given in the following table.
